Walter E. Daniels (of counsel) focuses his practice on the corporate, financial and intellectual property needs of technology-based companies, including such matters as corporate finance, venture capital, and transactions involving technology. Mr. Daniels attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill as a Morehead Scholar, graduating as a member of Phi Beta Kappa and with honors. He earned his law degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a M.A. in Public Policy Sciences from Duke University.
He has been selected as among Best Lawyers in America, Who's Who in American Law, among the "Legal Elite" in the Business Law category, and among North Carolina Superlawyers. He has received many other awards and honors, including being selected as the recipient of the 1998 “NCEITA 21" Legal-Financial Award and as the 1989 “Service Provider of the Year” by the CED, as well as having received the Charles Hamner Award for service to the Biotechnology industry. He is Martindale AV rated.
Mr. Daniels currently serves as Chairman of the Statewide Advisory Board of the North Carolina Small Business and Technology Development Center (SBTDC) for which he has served since 1984. He is also serving as a Member of the Roanoke Island Commission pursuant to an appointment by the Speaker of the North Carolina House of Representatives. He was Chairman of Biotech 2001 sponsored by the Council for Entrepreneurial Development (CED) and the North Carolina Biotechnology Center. He served as Chairman of the North Carolina Technological Development Authority (NCTDA) from 1994 through 2000 and as a Director from 2000 through February 2002.
He was a founding member of the CED and served as a director of the CED for many years. He has served as Chairman of CED’s Venture ‘99: The 16th Annual Research Triangle Venture Capital Conference, a member of the North Carolina Biotechnology Center Advisory Committee on the Development and Transfer of Biotechnology, a Trustee of the Durham Arts Council, as a founding member of the Board of Directors of the North Carolina Electronics and Information Technologies Association (NCEITA), Chairman of the Governor's Task Force on Solar Law, a Director of the North Carolina Alternative Energy Corporation, a Director of the Research Triangle Park Rotary Club, and a member of the Z. Smith Reynolds Foundation Advisory Board.
